Stem: Light green pads 9-22 cm long, covered in bumps (areoles) each with 1-3 short, sometimes bent spines. Often develops a trunk up to 10 cm thick. Flowers: Yellow, 5-7 cm wide. Fruit and Seeds: Reddish-purple, egg-shaped, 5-7 cm long. Habitat: Waste areas, arid areas.
