Family: Flacourtiaceae Scientific name: Dovyalis caffra Description: Plant Form: Small tree. Size: Up to 8 m tall. Stem: Smooth grey turning to flaky or corky bark with age. With spines up to 7 cm long on young stems. Leaves: Dark green 2-5 cm long with waxy appearance and 3-5 prominent veins. Flowers: Small, inconspicuous, creamy green with no petals. Fruit and Seeds: Large, apricot-coloured yellow berry, up to 4 cm diameter. Habitat: Urban bushland, forests, parks, old gardens, agricultural areas.
