Family: Apocynaceae Scientific name: Cryptostegia madagascariensis Description: Plant Form: Woody climber or shrub. Size: Up to 3 m tall but climbing up to 30 m high. Stem: Many branching, release a milky sap when cut. Leaves: Shiny dark green in opposite pairs, 6-10 cm long. On green stalks. Flowers: Trumpet-shaped 4-6 cm long pink to purple, with 5 petals. Fruit and Seeds: Large pods 7-9 cm long, usually in pairs, containing more than 300 brown seeds which have long silky hairs. Habitat: Riparian areas, forests, pastures, roadsides, waste areas. Distinguishing Features: Yellowish green rather than purplish leaf stalks distinguish from Rubber vine (Cryptostegia grandiflora).
