Family: Fabaceae Scientific name: Senna pendula var. glabrata Description: Plant Form: Upright sprawling shrub. Size: Up to 5 m tall. Stem: Multi-branched, green and sparsely hairy when young, becoming darker and woody with age. Leaves: Compound of 3-6 pairs of dark green rounded egg or oval-shaped leaflets up to 5 cm long with yellowish edges. Almost hairless with a lighter coloured midvein. Small cone-shaped gland between the 2 lowest leaflets. Flowers: Pea-like, bright yellow with 5 large petals. Up to 3 cm across. With prominent curved stamens. Fruit and Seeds: Cylindrical drooping pods 10-20 cm long, often with constrictions, ripening from green to pale brown. Containing 5-40 black seeds. Habitat: Riparian areas, urban bushland, disturbed areas, old gardens, parks, forests. Distinguishing Features: Distinguished from other Sennas (Senna species) by having rounded leaflets with yellowish edges.
