Family: Convolvulaceae Scientific name: Ipomoea cairica Description: Plant Form: Vigorous perennial climber. Size: Climbing up to 4.5 m high. Stem: Twining, almost hairless, rooting at nodes. Leaves: Numerous, deeply divided into 5 or 7 lobes which are lance to oval-shaped. Flowers: Showy pink or purple, rarely white. With 5 petals that fuse together making an overall trumpet-like shape. 6-8 cm across. Fruit and Seeds: Spherical capsule about 1 cm across, with 2 chambers, containing egg-shaped and densely hairy seeds. Habitat: Riparian areas, waste areas, urban bushland, coastal scrub, sand dunes.
