Family: Rutaceae Scientific name: Murraya paniculata Description: Plant Form: Bushy evergreen shrub or small tree. Size: Up to 4 m tall. Stem: Green, smooth and mostly hairless when young, becoming woody, rough and brown or grey with age. Leaves: Compound 6-15 cm long of 3-9 small glossy oval or egg-shaped green leaflets with pointed tips. Alternately arranged along stem. Flowers: White with 5 petals up to 2 cm long that curve backwards. In clusters of up to 8. Fruit and Seeds: Egg-shaped to elongated oval-shaped berry 1 cm across. Ripens from green to orange or bright red. Containing 1-2 teardrop-shaped seeds. Habitat: This plant is native to parts of northern Australia but weedy elsewhere. It is found in forests, riparian areas, woodlands, urban bushland, disturbed areas and old gardens. Distinguishing Features: Has smaller leaflets than cultivated subspecies.
