Family: Alismataceae Scientific name: Alisma plantago-aquatica Description: Plant Form: Erect emergent aquatic herb. Size: Up to 1.5 m tall. Leaves: Oval to egg-shaped. Usually with 7 prominent veins. Flowers: Small, 1 cm across, pale pink or whitish, in large clusters up to 60 cm long. Fruit and Seeds: Nutlets about 2 mm long. Habitat: Waterways, wetlands. Native to eastern Australia but has naturalised in other places. Distinguishing Features: Distinguished from the significant weed Arrowhead (Sagittaria calycina) by having ovalish leaves compared to arrow shaped. Distinguished from Lance leaved water plantain (Alisma lanceolatum) in having wider leaves. Weed Status: Non-weedy native lookalike Weed Type: Lifeform: Aquatic
