Family: Geraniaceae Scientific name: Erodium crinitum Description: Plant Form: Spreading to erect annual herb. Size: Up to 50 cm tall. Stem: With sparse covering of long stiff hairs, not from glands. Leaves: Palm-like at base, with 3 lobes that are themselves lobed and the central lobe being largest. Compound in appearance. With toothed edges and sparse covering of hairs. Flowers: With 5 petals which are often overlapping to form bowl-like shape. In groups of 2-6, blue or purplish with white or yellow veins. Fruit and Seeds: 4-6 cm long, resembling a storks bill. Long awn with 2 hairless pits underneath. Often has folds at base. Habitat: This native plant inhabits a wide range of grasslands, open woodlands, shrublands, rocky hillsides. Distinguishing Features: Flowers are generally more blue than non-native Storksbills (Erodium species), and leaves with 3-lobed compound appearance.
