Stem: Many branching, erect, variable hairiness, reddish-brown, becoming woody and rigid at base with age. Leaves: Alternate along stems, narrow-linear to almost oval-shaped, 1-15 cm long, with a wedge-shaped base. Both surfaces covered in pale hairs. Flowers: Solitary between the leaf stalks and stems. Yellow with 4 oval or club-shaped (notched at end) petals. Fruit and Seeds: Capsule that matures from green to purplish, cylindrical to club-shaped, 3-5 cm long, with 8 ribs.
