Family: Onagraceae Scientific name: Ludwigia hyssopifolia Description: Plant Form: Erect aquatic or semi-aquatic herb or shrub. Size: Up to 3 m tall. Stem: Spongey and swollen with air pockets. Upper stems ribbed or winged. Sometimes becoming woody with age. Leaves: Alternate along stem, lance-shaped, up to 10 cm long. Wedge-shaped at base. Flowers: Small, bright to pale yellow singular flowers between leaf stalk and stem. Usually with 4 elongated oval-shaped petals, sometimes with 5. Fruit and Seeds: Cylindrical capsule up to 3 cm long, covered in soft hairs, sometimes swollen at the end. Containing many brown oblong-shaped seeds. Habitat: Riparian areas, swamps, rainforest edges. Native to WA and NT but likely naturalised in Qld.
