Family: Asteraceae Scientific name: Reichardia tingitana Description: Plant Form: Annual or perennial rosette herb. Size: Up to 50 cm tall. Stem: Upright, fleshy with a milky sap. Leaves: In rosette leaves are elongated oblong-shaped up to 17 cm long, and often lobed. On stems leaves are lance-shaped and up to 10 cm long. Fleshy, hairless, and with minutely prickly edges. Flowers: Bright yellow circular compound heads of many strap-like florets. With a reddish centre and cup-like supporting bracts. Fruit and Seeds: Dry, dark brown on the outside of the head, inside paler. With parachuting hairs about 8 mm long. Habitat: Disturbed areas, lawns, gardens, parks, grasslands, riparian areas, dunes, urban areas, roadsides.
